Here they are! Charlie and Lily. It took us two full days but we got them names. I’m so happy to have two bunnies hopping around the house (again). Since we’re at work most of the day, we decided to get two so they can keep each other company. They are both really sweet and Lily loves to cuddle, although she’s quite shy. Charlie, on the other hand, knows exactly what he wants. I can’t wait to discover more of their personalities and spend quality time with them over the weekend.

the rainbow bridge

hiro

Our beloved Hiro left for the rainbow bridge this past Wednesday. I don’t understand how fate can be this cruel to us. He is the third bunny I have had to say goodbye to in a mere five years and it hurts, so much.
For the first time in years I was looking forward to the Christmas holidays (Mickey passed away on Christmay Day 2008) and now it all doesn’t matter anymore…
Hiro left this world at our home, in my arms and with Steven by our side. I hope that will have served as some kind of comfort on his journey to the rainbow bridge.

Dear Hiro,

we miss you so much.
I hope you can find the company of Jack, Mickey, Snoepie and Pinky over on the rainbow bridge.
Send my love to them, will you?

One last kiss from your bunny mom & dad

Bunspace Calendar 2014

If you’re still looking for the perfect 2014 calendar, this post might be something for you. Unless you don’t like pet rabbits, that is.

Every year, the pet rabbit community Bunspace creates a calendar with photos of their members. The process is easy: you buy a ticket (proceeds go to an animal shelter) to upload a certain number of photos. When the upload-period finishes, members can vote for their favorite photos. The photo with most of the votes gets to be on the cover of the calendar. The other photos get their place on one of the monthly collages.
By the end of the summer, I browsed back to Bunspace to see if any of my photos made the calendar and to my surprise I found out that one of the photos I submitted, would be on the cover of the calendar.

I’m extremly proud that my photo will be on display in several households across the globe. The rabbit on the cover is Robby and he lives with my parents. My own boy Joey and the late Jack are also made it to the calendar, they’re part of the February collage. I guess it’s better luck next time for our pet rabbit Hiro and the late Mickey.

If you want to brighten up 2014 by looking at rabbits all year long: the calendar is available for purchase over on the Bunspace store.

World Animal Day 2013

Today we celebrate World Animal Day, so it’s about time for Joey, Hiro and Akira to have their annual shining moment on the blog. These three sweethearts are such a big part of our family and I love each and one of them dearly.

On a sad note: I had everything prepared for this blog post today, when I, unexpectedly, had to take Hiro to the vet this morning. He got his share of antibiotics and pain killers, so I hope to see him doing well by the time I come home from work tonight.

Today marks the first anniversary of Hiro joining our little family. I can’t believe it’s already been a year since we got him. Last night I browsed through my Lightroom catalog and picked ten of my favorite photos of Hiro from this past year. Enjoy!

I’m sure you already knew that I’m a huge bunny lover. Imagine my reaction when coming home after a long day at work and reading about Benjamin Linus. Benjamin is the bunny of Brooklyn based Lauren Gates. She adopted her cute friend to help her through a difficult time.
Eventually, Benjamin managed to do just that. Gates created 12 costumes, one for each month of the year, and started shooting photos of her bunny dressed in these adorable outfits. One of them even represents a Harry Potter costume.
Lauren eventually made a calendar out of the photos which has brought Benjamin internet fame already. Check out his Facebook page and Etsy shop for a cuteness overload.

World Animal Day

Happy World Animal Day to my two adorable pet rabbits, Joey and Hiro. While Joey continues to live with my parents (and enjoys my weekly visits), Hiro is the rabbit the hubby and I adopted in May.

Let us also not forget about Jack, Mickey, Snoepie and Pinky who are watching us from the rainbow bridge and of course every other animal in this world.

I cannot imagine life without my bunnies and I’m glad today’s here to celebrate them!

Happy Things

You know what they say about enjoying the little things in life… That’s exactly what I’ve been trying to do over the last couple of weeks. They include having a relaxed homemade dinner, having Hiro over in our bed in the morning (only in the weekends, though) and visiting my buddy Joey at my parents’ house (he still sits under my chair in their kitchen).

Meet… Hiro. Yes, we did find a name after all for our little sweetheart. He’s feeling right at home already and is so happy to have us around during the weekend. I got to take a few photos of him on the second day he was here and managed to get a few cute shots in Converse sneakers on Friday. He’s growing so fast, I should be taking pictures daily instead of weekly from now on…

A new addition to our little family

After much consideration, we got ourselves a pet rabbit on Monday. Steven was able to pick up our little boy this afternoon and around 11pm tonight I was finally able to take a quick photo of him. We’re still looking for a name, but expect us to come up with that over the next couple of days.

forever in our hearts

December 25th, 2008. It was supposed to be a Happy Christmas, but after that day, Christmas would never be the same again. At least not for me. On that day, my favorite holiday of the year, I said goodbye to my dear friend Mickey. Up until today I still miss him very much & I hope that someday I will find the joy of Christmas again.

Miss you, buddy…

Happy World Animal Day

Happy World Animal Day to all animals today, especially my cute pet rabbits Joey & Robby.

Jack, Mickey, Snoepie & Pinky, who left for the rainbow bridge over the past few years, are also remembered today.

World Animal Day is celebrated each year on October 4th and has been since 1931, when it was started in Florence, Italy during a convention of ecologists.

On World Animal Day, animal life in all its forms is celebrated and throughout the day various events are planned all over the globe.

Coincidentally, October 4th also marks the feast day of Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals, though World Animal Day isn’t bound to the celebration of a Christian saint anymore and is thus celebrated by animal lovers of all beliefs & backgrounds.
